The power of community
Over the years we’ve done our best to create an approachable community where people can feel welcome at all of our outreach events no matter who they are and what they are going through. We recently had the opportunity to speak with one wonderful member of our community, named V. She shared with us the difficulties that she’d faced over the years and also talked about incredible moments of blessing.
Two years ago V was with a local clergy member that recommended her to City Relief and she began going to our pop-up mobile resource centers, offered weekly at eight outreach locations. During that time she was robbed twice and lost her identification. With the help of our City Relief team, she was able to get new identification and regain access to her much-needed benefits. She said that finding City Relief made her feel that someone is always there for her when she needs help and that she will never be turned away. Because of that experience, V decided to join the mission by helping us to distribute resources and inviting others in need to connect with us.
When asked what she needs most at this stage of her life, V said simply: “people that care about her.” Those words are still ringing in our ears because it is something with which we can all relate. It is why we exist as an organization and what drives us to keep working. We are passionate about caring for our community, which includes each and every one of you.
