City Relief Internships

Overview

The City Relief Internship program is a life-changing opportunity for motivated young adults to do hands-on urban mission work. Every week, City Relief offers hope and resources to communities in need in areas of New York City and New Jersey in need. As an intern at City Relief, you will participate in serving these communities and receive mentoring and discipleship from our staff as you develop your professional skills and experience.

While there are various areas of focus, every Intern will be serving the needs of our guests experiencing homelessness and poverty directly, serving at outreaches on a regular basis. In addition to supporting weekly outreaches, interns will choose an area of focus, such as outreach, guest care, development, communications, and volunteer engagement.

Available Tracks

  • Outreach: Interns work closely with the Outreach Team and are equipped with the skills to lead areas of service within Outreach including leading the outreach preparation, volunteers, and specific service areas onsite while providing compassionate care to our guests. The ultimate goal is to develop skills for an intern to lead a full day of outreach depending on the length of the internship.

  • Guest Services: Interns are equipped with the skills to engage directly with guests experiencing homelessness and poverty to offer encouragement, hope, prayer, ongoing care coordination, and practical connections to resources.

  • Development: Interns help build partnerships with our donors to connect them to what is happening on the street and be sure that the quality of care we provide our outreach guests extends to our donors as well. Interns are equipped with the skills to engage directly with donors, create and implement fundraising strategies, host donors at outreaches, and learn about donor management, appreciation, stewardship, etc.

  • Communications: Interns work closely with the Communications Team to help our audience to better understand the challenges of homelessness through education and storytelling, as well as, supporting organizational marketing initiatives for fundraising, partnerships, and events. These interns can gain experience in content creation, digital marketing strategies, photography, video editing, website maintenance, Google Analytics/Google Ads, etc. This internship requires a submission of a writing/graphic design/photography/video sample depending on your skills and/or interests.

  • Volunteer: Interns will create and maintain an excellent experience for all City Relief Volunteers. Interns support the outreach team, approaching outreach from a volunteer experience perspective. This intern will learn how to use the Virtuous Volunteer Management system to assist with maintaining accurate Volunteer Sign up Data and participating in Volunteer Appreciation. Interns will also assist with other volunteer initiatives and projects, for example, providing hospitality for Service Trips, the Senior Volunteer Program, and Special Events support.
