NJ Housing Resources To Help Someone In Need

This week we want to provide some resources for people in the New Jersey area that might be at risk for homelessness. We understand that many circumstances can arise to put someone in a position to lose their home.

As a guide, we have pulled together some action steps someone can take if they are at risk of homelessness. Maybe the need is rental assistance or support with utility bills; there are resources out there to help.

Contact the State of New Jersey’s Homelessness Prevention Agency

In New Jersey, each county has a phone number you can call to contact your local homelessness prevention agency. Call 211 to contact the nearest agency for help or click here for a full listing of agencies.

Apply For Utility Bill Assistance

This program provides bill assistance to New Jersey residents; for people at risk of losing their homes, the costs of several bills could offset rent or mortgage costs. Call 211 for immediate assistance.

Talk To A Housing Counselor

A nationwide network of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) participating housing counseling agencies have been helping people by providing answers needed to make informed housing decisions; you can contact a counselor by calling (800) 569-4287.

Each action point listed has practical next steps to get someone on the right track for assistance. Feel free to share these steps with people that may be at risk. We are in this together and committed to helping bridge the gap between the need and availability.
