Traits Of The Good Samaritan
As an organization that is devoted to outreach, we often reflect on the story and characteristics of the Good Samaritan. As the story goes, he finds a man badly beaten on the side of the road that many people had passed over, too busy to stop and help—an all too familiar picture.
Yet the Good Samaritan makes time for him, gives him clothing and shelter, and shows him incredible mercy. In the same way, we have an opportunity every day to embody the traits of a good samaritan by following in his steps.
When we make time to engage someone who is hurting or in trouble, we are placing value on them before we’ve ever given them a cent. People experiencing homelessness in our communities are desperate for human connection, and the gift of time is an easy one to give.
We actively participate in their restoration when we give resources to those in need. We do not expect anything in return. We know that we may never be repaid, but we show generosity anyway because it is what Jesus has called us to do.
When we show mercy we are giving the most expensive gift of all. It is a price that has already been paid. We show mercy to others because we have received great mercy. When we see others in trouble, and we choose to help without judgment, we are living out the words of Jesus, “Go and do likewise.”
We are a team built on these principles, and we welcome all who are willing to join us as we seek to fulfill our mission.
